WHY POSCO
Posco is a multinational company going to invest huge amount in Orissa and it will help the people and the government of Orissa. To change the color of the society if it materializes in Orissa other companies out of India also follow. So we want Posco to come and establish in Orissa.
Rehabilitation and Resetlement of the displaced people will have to be done taking to into account the status of the displaced person and provide them with some permanent arrangement for their lively hood. International Watch Society had given the proposal to Posco in the long back and there was an understanding between IWS and Posco that they will work together. But of late some misunderstanding has crept in and it did not materialize. We must find out the reason and start working together again.

Why one of us staying in” DHINKIA”

The Government and Posco people could not enter into the village and have any discuss with them, so one of us was staying in the village “Dhinkia” and find out the pulse of the people. Even at that time there was disturbances between anti-Posco and pro-Posco people. We thought that it we would get along with the people, it would be easer for Posco to communicate with the anti-Posco people through IWS. Still we have keep the relationship with them.

What IWS had done for Posco.

There are mainly two issues. One is for the fisher folk, which we were told that it would be settle down by posco, the other things are the beetle vine cultivators. We were told that about Rs 25,000 would be sufficient for one Acer if you have got your land and it will fetch around 5 to 6 thousand rupees per month for beetle vine cultivation and funds for the deprived people of their lands. IWS is prepare to negotiation with the people for the settlement

We have taken an office in Bhubaneswar and we have started a satellite office in Kujang we recently held a health camp there. More than thousand patients came and was checked up by efficient doctors and were given from free medicine also.

We find that there are mainly two problems. One is with the fisher man, which will be taken care by Posco and the other with the beetle vine people who will be displaced for the own lands and have to be rehabilitation accordingly as they are looking their own land and permanent lively hood so we have to put them up when they are do their business. We were told that Rs.25, 000 to Rs.  30,000will be required for the cultivate. One acre beetle vine business and an income of about 5000to 6000 rupees will fetch from one acre monthly.

So we will have to give them alternate lands and funds for beetle vine cultivation IWS is prepared to negotiation with the people for a settlement.
